Masculine Protection

Sarasota, FL

Sharing a few thoughts on relationships tonight. ..

I believe men have God-given protector instincts built into their makeup. Some exhibit these more than others due to various factors.

While some men choose to express their desire to protect through their vocation (military, first responders) that is not a necessary requirement.

Although, they are the types I tend to attract and there’s alot I appreciate about them. Some people carry the energy of the “warrior” archetype, and I’d like to think I’m one of those.

When I’m in the presence of a man who has intentionally developed his protector skills and is embodying his calling, I feel a shared resonance.

It’s an energy that just feels safe to my system, and I’ve been privileged to experience it enough to know it when I feel it.

So, what does this look like in a relationship between a man and a woman?

We hear all the time that men are supposed to be the protectors, but what are they protecting?

I’d like to upgrade the idea that their only job is to protect the woman. In our modern day world, there may not be as many opportunities for that as there were in the past-

For example: no one has come at me with a sword this week. ..so far 😅

Because of this, I can see how men could feel like they aren’t needed, or like they don’t have a purpose, but I actually think they have a bigger one than most have realized.

In my opinion, the man is the guardian and protector of the relationship container.

What do I mean by container? It’s the scaffolding or infrastructure beneath and around the union.

A few ways this could show up are as follows:

● Prioritizing connection (time, energy,
   presence)

● Managing resources

● Preventing interference from outside
    people or energies

Not to say that women don’t play a very large part as well, but the man’s role is different.

The specifics of this are outside the scope of this post, so I may do a part 2, but I was thinking about it this week and realized that if the man’s role is viewed as only protecting the woman, it can easily create a rescuer-victim dynamic, which is really disempowering for women and doesn’t allow for both partners to show up in their fullest expression or to use their individual gifts.

I like the idea of a men protecting the container, because it creates a sense of safety for women and allows them to be in their feminine energy- not to be confused with a constant state of relaxation, passivity, or fragility, because it’s actually very powerful, and even fierce when the occasion calls for it, but it does usually look different than men’s expression of these same qualities.

Another reason I think it works best for men to be the ones to gaurd the relationship container: when it’s the other way around it creates a mother-son dynamic and kills the sexual polarity, among other things. ..the good news is that I don’t actually know a woman who wouldn’t respond well to the man she cares about taking the lead in the ways I described 🏆

I may write more on this soon. ..it’s a little side hobby of mine to point out the limitations of prevalent societal beliefs and programs, but not without sharing my vision for how we can improve/upgrade, of course!
